Benin 1892 Issue with "BENIN" Overprint (one type in two colors) As first reported in Sperati II, Sperati printed his forged overprint on several stamps of the 1892 French Colonial issue. The known denominations that exist with forged overprint include the overprint in blue on the 5c; and in black on 1c, 4c, 25c and 5c postage due. This forgery is of a variety of the first type of the overprint with tilted "B." Four proof impressions, all date May 1943, were found
found in the Sperati's archives. Three were in blue and one in black.
The finished forgeries that were also found were all unused genuine
stamps with forged overprint. |
