1906 15c Surcharge Forgery - Type A

1. the color of the surcharge is not as solid as the genuine

for the "heavy impression" variant of the surcharge: third ornament (group of 4 vertical lines) from left along bottom is missing

for the "light impression" variant: from a second cliché: the left side of top border has a heavy line through the ornaments

the example shown at left top is the red 15c on 3c, heavy impression, that shown in Sperati I, plate 85)

for an example of the type A, light impression, struck in black on 1c, see finished reproduction here)

1906 (15c) Surcharge Forgery - Type B

3. type B - the loop of the "9" in "1906" does not close, the right hand oval of central ornament is broken at top left

(only reported in Sperati II as a proof, this example)

This may be a print from a master cliché used by Sperati as a progressive proof to which a denomination was added.

1906 25c Surcharge

The image at left from the negative in Paris Museum. An additional negative suggests that Sperati may also have made a 10c surcharge. See Sperati II for more information.
