Gold Coast
1883/1884 Issues, ½d and 1d Sperati made reproductions of three Gold Coast
stamps, the 1883 issue ½d and 1d and the 1889 issue 20s. Sperati claimed
that the 1s reproduction was his first British Empire forgery made in
1911. For his 20s reproduction Sperati used two clichés as well as a
redrawn duty cliché which BPA termed type B. The type B duty cliché
corrects a flaw in the frame of the tablet below the "0" of "20" and has
a redrawn "S" of "COAST." The reproductions are genuine watermarked
stamps with designs washed. Cancels are forged. |
